Revival in the Drug Capital

Nimbin, NSW

Nimbin is located 1hr in land from Byron Bay, and is known as the ‘Drug Capital’ of Australia. As a base we have always had a big heart for Nimbin and have been praying for the town for over 15 years. Throughout the years we have brought the truth and love of the gospel to Nimbin through creating a safe space- filled with bibles, worship, pancakes and chai tea during the annual Mardi Grass Festival- which promotes the legalisation of weed.

This year, as you know things looked a little different and the festival didn’t go ahead. So, instead we went out to Nimbin to do Prayer Walks and Street Evangelism, and also connected with the local church- supporting their monthly service. Throughout this time we have seen the atmosphere of Nimbin changing! And we have a short testimony to share!

A staff member from a different YWAM base had met a local from Nimbin, and got to give her a bible. She was not a Christian, and was actually immersed in many different new age beliefs, and didn’t know who Jesus was. They then contacted our base to reach out and connect with her when we were next in Nimbin, with only a name to go off! So, when 2 of our staff were in Nimbin they followed God’s fingerprints scattered throughout the town and found this lady sitting on a park bench reading the bible she was given! And through conversation the lady explained to them that she had read through the gospels by herself, and had now completely surrendered her life to Jesus, through seeing the TRUTH and GOOD NEWS in his word! They then got to chat, pray, have a bible study, and encourage her in her new life with Jesus!

Since then we have been able to have more bible studies with this lady and people started to notice a difference in her as she walked out her faith and started sharing it with people throughout the town! She has even brought locals into the church that is in Nimbin! In the past few months we have seen a tangible difference in the streets, atmosphere and people of Nimbin! With them becoming more open. Ground is breaking and there is a softening taking place in what is known as one of the hardest places and the Drug Capital of Australia.

So, we want to encourage you in this; that no place, person or situation is ever too hard for God!! If you have been praying for revival, transformation or breakthrough for a long time now, but it is starting to seem just too hard or too far gone- this is your encouragement to keep PRAYING! Because God is faithful, he works in so many different ways and he has his fingerprints scattered all over situations that are lifted up to him with hearts filled with earnest prayers! Also if there is someone you know who doesn’t have a bible, we encourage you to be the person who places one into their hands or brings one into their homes! Because God’s word is still very much alive and active today and holds the power to bring salvation to the lost and to change and turn hearts around with his love!
